Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, in an interview with US Newzs on Friday, made it clear that he has no plans to resign from his congressional seat, despite his recent removal from the speakership earlier in the week.

During the interview with Fox’s Bret Baier, McCarthy responded directly to a Politico report suggesting that he was considering leaving Congress. He firmly stated that he had no intention of stepping down.

Politico’s report had relied on information from “two people familiar with the matter” and had indicated that McCarthy intended to remain in his congressional seat at least until a new speaker was selected next week. The reported rationale behind this decision was to assist the party in stabilizing itself following a significant leadership change.

Kevin McCarthy faced a narrow defeat in a 216-210 vote on Tuesday to remove him from the position of House Speaker. The motion to vacate his role was introduced by Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously threatened to take this action following a breakdown in Republican unity over efforts to prevent a government shutdown in the preceding week.

Following McCarthy’s removal, Patrick McHenry, a Republican from North Carolina, was designated as Speaker Pro Tempore, serving as a temporary replacement until the House conducts a vote to select a permanent Speaker next week.

Three potential candidates have emerged as viable replacements for McCarthy, and they include House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma. These individuals are being considered for the crucial role of leading the House of Representatives.

Former President Donald Trump was suggested as a potential replacement for the position of House Speaker. He indicated to US Newzs Digital on Thursday that he would be willing to temporarily assume the role to assist in reconciling differences among members of the Republican party. However, he subsequently expressed his support for Rep. Jim Jordan for the Speaker position.
