Katy Perry is saying goodbye to “American Idol.”

After seven years as a judge on the popular competition show, the pop singer announced her departure.

“I believe this will likely be my final season on ‘Idol,'” Perry revealed during her appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night.

“I adore ‘Idol’… It’s been a fantastic connection to the heart of America. But I sense it’s time for me to march to my rhythm,” she said with a wink to the host.

When questioned about her fellow “American Idol” judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie’s response to her decision, Perry replied, “Well, they’ll hear about it tonight!”

“They’re aware that I have some exciting plans lined up for this year,” she hinted. “So it’s going to be an incredibly thrilling year… especially for all the popstar ladies out there!”

Perry also confirmed her decision on social media.

“Let’s play two truths and a lie: 1. I beat @usher at Monopoly Deal. 2. I’m headlining Rock in Rio this September. 3. This is my last season on @americanidol,” she wrote in her Instagram caption.

The “Roar” singer’s departure comes after facing criticism during a controversial season of “American Idol.”

Perry had previously been accused of “mom-shaming” and being “condescending” during season 21 of the popular show.

Fellow judge Bryan stepped up to support Perry when questioned about the criticism she faced.

“Katy Perry has dealt with this kind of thing throughout her entire career,” Bryan stated during an interview at the Country Music Association (CMA) Fest in June. “We all face it… I mean, we’re critiquing young talents that viewers at home grow attached to… We’re not going to be perfect judges all the time.”

“I believe we’re sometimes put in tough spots as judges. We often take the heat, especially when people voice their opinions strongly on social media,” he explained, referring to the criticism Perry has faced for her judging.

“For me, when Lionel [Richie], Katy, and I sit down at the judging panel, we genuinely strive to do our best,” Bryan added, emphasizing their dedication to the role.

After the 2023 season concluded and fan favorite Iam Tongi was declared the winner, finalist and top 8 contestant Oliver Steele dispelled rumors suggesting Perry was a bully.
