Joe Biden’s reported secret to a happy marriage was panned by critics
President Biden’s secret to a lasting and happy marriage, as revealed in a new book detailing Jill Biden’s role as first lady, is “good sex.”
“Joe may have toned down his public declarations about the bedroom since winning the presidency, but he has joked with aides that ‘good sex’ is the key to a successful and happy marriage, much to his wife’s dismay,” Katie Rogers writes in an upcoming book obtained by Fox News Digital.
The book recounts that before the 2008 presidential election, in 2006, “Joe still appeared more interested in spending time at home with Jill than pursuing a run for the presidency.”
“I’d rather be at home making love to my wife while my children are asleep,” Biden remarked publicly that year when asked about a potential 2008 presidential run.
“The comment may have surprised some in the audience, but it elicited little more than a shrug from a spokesman, who clarified that the senator was ‘frankly totally in love with his wife,’” the book continued.
“American Woman,” authored by New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers, is set to be released on Tuesday. It delves into how the role of the first lady has evolved in the 21st century, with a focus on Jill Biden’s time in the White House.
Excerpts from the book, including the president’s remarks regarding “good sex” as the cornerstone of a happy marriage, have drawn mockery and criticism from critics on social media.
“Not The Bee” tweeted, “Joe Biden, a man who can barely walk up a set of stairs, says the key to his marriage is ‘good sex.'”
Clay Travis, founder of Outkick, tweeted, “Joe Biden, who can’t climb stairs without falling, says the secret to his marriage is ‘good sex.’ Really.”
Bo Snerdley, known from “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” tweeted, “I don’t even know what to say about this post. Why?”
The president and first lady first met in 1975, following the tragic death of Joe Biden’s first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, in a car accident in 1972. The accident also claimed the life of their 1-year-old daughter, Naomi, while their two sons, Beau and Hunter, survived. Joe Biden was sworn in as a Delaware senator just two weeks after the tragedy.
The book details that Jill first met Joe Biden’s sons in early 1975, several months after she began dating Joe. Joe had tragically lost his first wife, Neilia, and their infant daughter, Naomi, in a car crash in December 1972, just weeks after winning his first Senate race.
However, the book argues that Jill Biden was initially hesitant about the relationship. At the age of 23, she was freshly divorced after experiencing what the book describes as a “counterfeit love” with her first husband.
The book continues, detailing that the prospect of marrying Joe, a thirty-two-year-old widower still in the process of rebuilding his family, was daunting for Jill. This is why it reportedly took Joe five marriage proposals before she finally said yes.
According to the book, Beau Biden, who was just 7 years old at the time, also encouraged the relationship, telling his father, “Dad, we think we should marry Jill.”
Joe and Jill Biden eventually married in 1977. From that point on, Beau and Hunter began to refer to Jill as “Mom,” while continuing to remember their deceased mother as “Mommy.”
The book continues, stating that when Jill married Joe in June 1977, the boys accompanied them on a mini honeymoon, where they had their own room in a hotel suite.
Joe and Jill Biden are set to celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary in June.
