DeSantis says Trump's lead is only because people haven't decided yet

Presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., dismisses the 2024 poll as not accurately reflecting the current state of the intense GOP race; recent surveys that place him in third place don’t concern him.

A recent Suffolk University survey, conducted for USA Today and the Boston Globe, indicates that while former President Donald Trump maintains his lead in the race, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has surged ahead of DeSantis by a margin of 9 percentage points, with Haley at 19% and DeSantis at 10%.

Kevin McCarthy denies he’s considering resigning after being ousted as speaker

When asked about these recent polling results, DeSantis expressed his belief that voters are still “on the fence.”

“I don’t believe any of it holds significance,” DeSantis told reporters during a recent campaign event. “To succeed when voting commences, you must position yourself with the necessary infrastructure. However, none of these polls will have any bearing when people begin casting their votes; that’s what will ultimately determine the outcome.”

DeSantis further implied that while Trump currently maintains a lead in the majority of national surveys, he is not relying on these figures to remain constant when the actual voting occurs.

“I believe, ultimately, a significant number of individuals have yet to make up their minds,” stated the Florida governor exclusively to US Newzs Digital during his visit to Greenville, South Carolina. “So, when you conduct a poll and apply pressure, especially if these individuals are still undecided and are more familiar with Trump than anyone else, they’re more inclined to lean in that direction.”

He continued, “If you delve deeper, you’ll find that about half of the electorate in these states remains open to persuasion, and we are determined to secure their votes across all of these states. We possess the organization, the unwavering dedication, and the compelling message required to achieve this.”

Eight Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., recently aligned themselves with House Democrats in a historic move to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. This unprecedented event marked the first time in history that a House speaker was ousted from his position.

When questioned about his preference for the next speaker of the House, DeSantis emphasized that it’s not about individual personalities but rather his willingness to collaborate with anyone. He expressed a sentiment against Washington, D.C. politicians attempting to impose their agenda on the people and stressed the need for the people to assert their will.

While he did not officially endorse anyone for the position, DeSantis mentioned that GOP Reps. Chip Roy, Thomas Massie, or Jim Jordan all have the potential to excel as the next speaker.

The Florida governor also revealed to US Newzs that if he were elected in 2024, his agenda would revolve around unifying the nation to restore the American dream.

“It’s all about leadership, and you must be prepared to step up and take action,” DeSantis asserted. “Regarding our overarching agenda, we can rally around the goal of restoring the American dream. This includes combating inflation, achieving energy dominance and independence to bring down gas prices, implementing a robust border policy to confront cartels.”

“We will ensure that parental rights are upheld in this country once more. We’ll also work to address the concerning rise in crime plaguing the streets of many major cities. This agenda is geared towards igniting a resurgence of the American spirit and reversing the decline our nation has been experiencing,” DeSantis concluded.
