Washington’s National Mall shows smoke from a vehicle fire near the Lincoln Memorial

Black smoke has been rising Friday near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

Black smoke was observed rising near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Friday, attributed to a vehicle fire in the vicinity.

DC Fire and EMS stated on X that the “apparent source was a vehicle fire on the George Washington Parkway in Virginia that has been extinguished.”

Crews from the agency are en route to the scene. Arlington Fire and EMS indicated that the blaze involved a “pickup truck and trailer.”

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The George Washington Parkway runs alongside the Potomac River, adjacent to the Lincoln Memorial.
