Visiting home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Biden says he wasn’t on vacation: “I can’t go home.”

In Wilmington, Biden’s primary residence is getting a security upgrade from the Secret Service

During his visit to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Sunday, President Biden made it clear that he wasn’t on vacation and, at the moment, lacked a place to call home. Following his attendance at Mass at St. Edmond Roman Catholic Church, he approached reporters and voluntarily disclosed that his weekend trip was not for recreational purposes, as reported by The Associated Press.

While President Biden does own two residences in Delaware, he primarily resides in the White House, yet he frequently spends his weekends in the First State.

Biden stated, “I have no home to go to,” and explained that the U.S. Secret Service has been diligently enhancing security at his long-standing primary residence in Wilmington, Delaware, for the better. Consequently, he hasn’t spent a night in Wilmington in several months.

“When I came to Delaware, I couldn’t go anywhere but here,” he remarked, referring to his residence in Rehoboth Beach. “I’ve only been here for one day.”

Biden first told reporters about the security improvements to his Wilmington home in April, when he returned from a trip to Ireland and visited his beach house.

After visiting Florida earlier in the day to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia, the president arrived on the Delaware coast Saturday night. Originally, he had planned to spend Labor Day weekend at his Rehoboth Beach home but changed his plans due to last week’s storm.

Two weeks ago, the first family enjoyed a week-long vacation in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Biden has faced consistent criticism from the Republican National Committee and GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill for his frequent weekend trips away from the White House.

When reporters confronted the president on Sunday, they asked if he was suggesting he was homeless, as the AP reported.

“No, I’m not homeless,” he clarified. “I have only one house, a beautiful house. I am here today because I cannot return to my primary residence.”

US Newzs Digital sought additional information from the White House, but they did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
