Vice President Kamala Harris will speak to major black and Latino groups and a gun safety organization in a month-long series.

Vice President Kamala Harris is preparing to commence a month-long series of prominent events aimed at mobilizing crucial voting groups. The itinerary highlights her role in the Democratic ticket for the 2024 elections.

Vice President Kamala Harris is going on a tour

On Sunday, Kamala Harris will be the main attraction at the annual convention of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition in Chicago, a civil rights organization founded by Rev. Jesse Jackson. Following that, she will travel to Indianapolis to deliver a speech at the conference of Delta Sigma Theta, connecting her with another historically Black sorority and showcasing her Alpha Kappa Alpha membership.

In the following weeks, Harris will address various conferences, including Unidos US, a prominent Hispanic advocacy group in Chicago, the NAACP in Boston, the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Orlando, and Everytown for Gun Safety in Chicago.

Each stop on Vice President Kamala Harris‘s upcoming tour is considered part of her official White House portfolio, highlighting the work she has done in the administration on significant issues that directly impact the well-being of the American people, according to the White House. However, these events also align with the Biden re-election effort’s strategy, which aims to focus on energizing key pillars of the Democratic Party during the relatively early period of the 2024 election cycle.

The travel itinerary reflects a focus on addressing crucial issues that are of utmost importance to the American people at present. It also aims to engage and mobilize key constituencies within the Biden and Harris coalition, ranging from young people to Latinos. A Biden adviser stated that having the vice president participate in these high-profile events early on in the election cycle signifies her ability to galvanize support and will assist in mobilizing these groups for the upcoming year.

Last month, President Joe Biden took center stage at a political rally hosted by major labor unions that had endorsed him. Additionally, he delivered a speech at a dinner held by a significant environmental group, which publicly expressed support for his re-election. Biden and Harris also made a joint appearance at a rally preceding the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, with various reproductive rights groups endorsing the Democratic ticket.

This itinerary bears similarities to Kamala Harris‘ previous schedule, where she engaged with key groups before the midterm elections last year. This strategy, devised in collaboration with the president, aimed to capitalize on the Dobbs decision and Republican-led endeavors to modify election laws. As a result, the Democratic Party managed to defy the conventional midterm trends by minimizing losses in the House, expanding their Senate majority, and gaining more control over governorships.

In light of recent Supreme Court decisions impacting African American students, young voters, and the LGBTQ community, Kamala Harris appears to be expanding on her previous approach. She has been actively engaging in various events, including a visit to the historic Stonewall Bar in New York as part of her commemoration of Pride Month. Additionally, she has focused on issues such as gun safety and climate change during her recent stops.

Kamala Harris‘s travel and engagement with different communities come at a time when the GOP presidential nomination process is gaining momentum. Notably, there is a significant Iowa Republican Party dinner scheduled for later this month, followed by the traditional campaign activities surrounding the Iowa State Fair in August.
