Costas called Trump himself the ‘most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history’
Sportscaster Bob Costas faced criticism from panelists on “The Big Weekend Show” shortly after he labeled Trump supporters as members of a “toxic cult” during an appearance on CNN’s “Smerconish” on Saturday.
Guy Benson, a radio host and Fox News contributor, responded to Costas’ comments by pointing out, “74, 75 million people in this country voted for Donald Trump. I’m not sure that’s a great look [for Costas].”
The discussion shifted from former President Donald Trump’s successful outcome in Nikki Haley’s home state of South Carolina on Saturday. During this transition, Fox News contributors Katie Pavlich and Lisa Boothe also weighed in, offering their perspectives on the current political landscape.
“Pavlich chimed in, asserting, “From transitioning from sports to labeling Trump supporters as a cult… It was a regrettable moment for him.”
Boothe suggested that the criticism would be directed towards any frontrunner in the Republican race for the White House in November. With the race narrowing down to two contenders — and with Donald Trump securing victories in all primaries and caucuses thus far — the spotlight has predominantly been on him.
“Even if Nikki Haley were to secure the nomination, which she won’t, the same level of criticism would be directed towards her, right? Remember, they labeled John McCain as racist and Mitt Romney as sexist. Essentially, if you’re a Republican, you’re a target,” she remarked.
“They’re going to criticize Donald Trump, but what we’re witnessing with Joe Biden is a splintering coalition of the individuals who propelled him to victory in 2020, expressing sentiments like, ‘We expected better from you, but you’ve disappointed us.’ Now, Trump can easily step in and assert, ‘Things were better under my leadership…’” she elaborated.
Costas, during his appearance on “Smerconish,” branded Trump as the “most disgraceful figure in modern presidential history” and criticized his supporters.
“He [Trump] embodies a plethora of detestable traits,” he remarked to host Michael Smerconish.
“You have to be in the grips of some form of toxic delusion and entrenched in a toxic cult to believe that Donald Trump has ever been, in any aspect, emotionally, psychologically, intellectually, or ethically qualified to serve as President of the United States,” he asserted. “But his supporters remain steadfast in that belief.”
Costas also criticized President Biden for seeking re-election and potentially exposing the country to further “madness” by paving the way for Trump’s return to office.
“He could lose to Trump, leading the nation into another four years of this ongoing madness. Alternatively, if he barely wins, likely, he won’t complete his second term. He would be 86 years old by the end of it,” he stated.
Former President Trump swiftly secured a victory over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in Saturday’s contest in the Palmetto State, marking another crucial win as he aims to secure the nomination and challenge President Biden in a November rematch.
Both candidates are now focused on Super Tuesday, scheduled for March 5.
