Former President Donald Trump stated during an interview at a Fox News town hall with host Laura Ingraham earlier this week that his wife Melania is expected to make more frequent public appearances on the campaign trail.

“It’s interesting, she was incredibly successful as a model, yet she’s always been a private person. But she’ll be out there a lot. Not because she enjoys it, but because she appreciates the impact,” he remarked on Tuesday. “She wants to witness this country thrive. She genuinely loves this country.”

“You know, many first ladies want to be seen everywhere. They get upset if their husband doesn’t introduce them,” Trump elaborated. “But if I didn’t introduce Melania, she would be perfectly content. She has her way of doing things.”

Melania has been noticeably absent from her husband’s 2024 presidential campaign, making few public appearances and keeping a low profile in the media.

Until recently, Melania’s absence has been attributed to the passing of her mother, Amalija Knavs, earlier this year. However, as the campaign season intensifies, political commentators have raised questions about whether she will resume her efforts in supporting Trump.

Trump also expressed gratitude for Melania’s dedication to raising their son, Barron Trump.

“Her focus is on our son. That’s incredibly important to her,” Trump remarked. “Yet, she’s also deeply invested in our country’s success. She has raised significant funds for charity. She values her privacy.”

“And she loves this country,” Trump emphasized. “She’ll be making more appearances, but it’s for the benefit of the country, not for herself. She’s a confident person. She doesn’t seek validation.”

Trump’s Fox News town hall occurred four days before South Carolina’s Republican presidential primary, scheduled for Saturday.

The most recent public opinion polls show that he maintains a substantial double-digit lead over former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, his last significant rival for the GOP nomination.
