Trump Says Iowa DeSantis ‘Globalist Sellout’

Globalist Sellout

Globalist Sellout: Former President Donald Trump used his Friday campaign stop in Iowa to brand Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his primary rival for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, as a “globalist sellout.”

Addressing a packed audience at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs, situated on the Nebraska border, Trump cautioned that Iowa farmers would suffer if DeSantis were to secure the GOP nomination and assume the presidency.

“He would spell disaster for farmers in Nebraska and Iowa, and elsewhere,” Trump declared. “DeSanctus, as I affectionately refer to him, a shortened form of DeSanctimonious, represents a globalist sellout; he is an acolyte of Paul Ryan and Karl Rove, and beholden to Wall Street donors associated with the Club for No Growth.”

Trump’s comments also took aim at the Club for Growth, a conservative political organization that has had a strained relationship with the former president since the 2022 midterm elections but enjoys a friendlier rapport with DeSantis.

“I have another name for them: the Club for China Growth,” Trump asserted. “They aren’t too fond of me. Their objective is to outsource every American farming position to foreign nations. This is precisely what Ron DeSanctimonious desires. It would be an appalling scenario for this state and its neighboring counterparts.”

During his speech, the former president passionately criticized DeSantis for his opposition to ethanol fuel, which is predominantly derived from corn, a crucial agricultural product in Iowa. As a former congressman, DeSantis co-sponsored the Renewable Fuel Standard Elimination Act in 2017, aiming to eradicate the Clean Air Act provisions mandating ethanol utilization in gasoline for cars and trucks. However, this legislation never reached a vote on the House floor.

“For years, he has fought against this vital industry—remember, he served as a congressman—attempting to obliterate every single job linked to it,” Trump emphasized. “Putting an end to the renewable fuel standard stood as one of his primary objectives during his tenure in Congress. If he had his way, the entire economy of Iowa would inevitably crumble.”

Trump also criticized DeSantis for denouncing the ethanol mandate as ‘socialism’ and labeling his destructive agenda to dismantle the Iowa farming industry as an obvious and thoughtless decision.

According to Trump, DeSantis opposed tariffs on Chinese products, which the former president claimed resulted in a $28 billion gain for American farmers.

“While DeSanctus aligned himself with the communists in China, I stood firmly with the American farmers,” Trump asserted.
