Former President Donald Trump mocked his fellow Republican presidential contender, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, about his weight during a campaign stump speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Trump playfully scolded a member of the audience who, as per Trump, had referred to Christie as a “fat pig.”

“Christie – he’s actually eating at the moment. He’s unavailable,” Trump quipped during the speech, eliciting laughter from the crowd.

“Sir, I’d like to request that you refrain from labeling him a fat pig. That level of disrespect is quite uncalled for. Let’s not refer to him as such – you see, I’m striving to display some courtesy here,” Trump added, directly addressing the audience member who, according to Trump, had used the offensive term to describe Christie.

“Don’t label him as a fat pig. It’s not acceptable. It’s not something we can do. And since it’s not a permissible action, we won’t engage in it, alright?” Trump remarked with a chuckle.

Trump’s remarks constituted just the most recent incident of him teasing Christie about his weight, an action he has undertaken on numerous occasions in the past.

Back in June, Trump seemed to focus on Christie’s physical size through various posts on social media following the ex-governor’s commencement of his second presidential campaign.

“On how many occasions did Chris Christie emphasize the term SMALL? Does he harbor a psychological fixation on DIMENSIONS?” Trump posted on Truth Social, alluding to Christie’s campaign launch speech.

“In fact, his address was short and not particularly impressive. It rambled on, and no one seemed to get the point he was making. Hard to bear, uninteresting — yet he was terminated from governorship (of New Jersey). With only a 7% approval rating, the term was dropped from New Hampshire. This time it won’t deviate from that pattern!” He added.

In September, Trump shared a picture of a Christie lookalike at a buffet: “Chris Christie showed up at Roy Rogers at 11pm for comfort,” Trump commented.

Responding to jibes about Trump’s weight in June, Christie responded in an interview with Fox News.

“Oh, like he’s some kind of Adonis?” He replied to host Howard Kurtz on “Mediabuzz,” referring to a mythological Greek god known for his beauty.

“You know, look, Howie, there are tens of millions of Americans in your audience right now who, like me, are struggling with their weight. I’m still facing that challenge. I’m still trying to make improvements. So, what does that have to do with my ability to hold office?” He expressed.

“I oversaw the governorship of New Jersey for eight years, and I believe I did so with considerable dynamism and accomplishment. I responded effectively after Hurricane Sandy, putting in 20-hour days for weeks. I don’t understand. What he meant. You know what that resembles? It’s childish behavior. This is school. Equals a bully who mocks and ridicules you on campus,” he continued.
