Trump endorses Jim Jordan for speaker

Former President Trump extended his “full & complete endorsement” to Rep. Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House, underscoring Jordan’s widespread respect.

In a recent post on his Truth social platform, Trump wrote, “Congressman Jim Jordan was a special person long before he embarked on his most successful journey to Washington, D.C., where he represents Ohio’s 4th Congressional District.” “Respected by all, he currently serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee,” he said.

Trump also recalled his time as president when he had the privilege of awarding the nation’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to Jim Jordan. “There is so much to learn from the sports world and Jim really excelled!” Trump said.

Highlighting Jordan’s illustrious wrestling career, Trump noted, “During Graham’s high school years, he accomplished the remarkable feat of winning state championships in four years, a rare feat, and a staggering record of 156-1. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jim was a two-time NCAA Division I He became a wrestling champion.”

“He secured his NCAA Championship victories in the 1985-86 season within his weight class,” Trump noted. “Jim holds a master’s degree in Education from Ohio State University and a Law Degree from Capital University.”

He further emphasized, “Jim stands firmly on issues related to Crime, Borders, our Military/Veterans, and the 2nd Amendment. Jim, alongside his wife Polly and their family, exemplifies excellence. He is poised to be an exceptional Speaker of the House and enjoys my Complete and total Endorsement.”

Jordan, currently serving as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, formally declared his candidacy for Speaker of the House following the historic removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, driven by a successful motion to vacate.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, hailing from Louisiana, has also thrown his hat into the ring for the position of Speaker of the House.

Trump’s remarks follow closely on the heels of his statement to US Newzs Digital, where he indicated that if Republicans struggle to garner sufficient backing for Jordan or Scalise, he would be open to assuming the speakership on an interim basis.

“I have been approached to serve as a unifying figure due to my numerous connections in Congress,” Trump revealed to US Newzs Digital. “In the event they do not secure the necessary votes, they have inquired about the possibility of me temporarily assuming the speakership until a more permanent solution is found, given my presidential aspirations.”

“They have approached me to potentially assume the role for a brief period, purely in the interest of the party, until they reach a resolution — it’s not my desire to do so,” Trump explained. “I am willing to step in if circumstances require it and they are unable to reach a decision.”

Trump refrained from specifying individuals, but several GOP lawmakers have openly expressed their preference for him as the speaker.

Trump underlined that if Republicans remain divided and unable to reach an agreement, he would consider taking on the speakership for a short duration, be it for 30, 60, or 90 days.

“I would exclusively undertake this responsibility for the benefit of the party,” he affirmed, emphasizing that his primary focus remains his presidential campaign.

Jordan has garnered widespread backing within the Republican conference, including from prominent House committee chairmen.

A congressional source noted, “Jordan’s endeavors have demonstrated his ability to rally both moderates and conservatives throughout the conference, securing the necessary 218 votes for a successful bid for the speakership.”
