Trump Calls for Fox News to Host Next Presidential Debate Following Biden’s Withdrawal

‘I think the Debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews,’ Trump posted on Truth Social

In a fiery post on Truth Social late Sunday, former President Donald Trump suggested that the next presidential debate should be moderated by Fox News, rather than ABC, which he labeled as “Fake News.” This statement came in response to President Biden’s recent decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Trump’s original debate with Biden, whom he referred to as “Crooked Joe Biden,” was scheduled to be broadcast on ABC in September. Trump criticized ABC as the home of “George Slopadopolus,” and argued that Fox News should now host the debate, citing perceived bias from ABC.

Trump’s comments followed Biden’s official announcement that he would not seek re-election. Biden cited mounting pressure from Democratic allies, who expressed concerns over his mental fitness and his age, as reasons for his decision. This pressure intensified after Biden’s underwhelming performance in a recent debate.

In a letter posted on X (formerly Twitter), Biden expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as President and announced his decision to step down from the race.

He emphasized his commitment to focusing on his duties for the remainder of his term and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate for the Democratic nomination.

“My first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision,” Biden stated. “Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

The upcoming debate, initially set to be hosted by ABC News on September 10, is now in question following Biden’s withdrawal. Trump has called for the debate to be moved to Fox News, though it remains unclear who he will face until the Democratic National Convention certifies a new nominee.

Trump’s campaign had previously agreed to two Fox News debates for this election cycle, including a presidential debate on October 2 and a vice-presidential debate with an undetermined date.

In his Truth Social posts, Trump did not hold back on his criticism of Biden, declaring him “the Worst President, by far, in the History of our Nation.” Trump accused Biden of damaging the country across various fronts, including border security, energy policy, and national security. He also claimed that Biden was unfit for office from the start, blaming those around him for misleading the American public about his capabilities.

Trump concluded with a follow-up post questioning whether the Republican Party should be reimbursed for what he termed as the “fraud” surrounding Biden’s candidacy, due to the alleged concealment of Biden’s health issues by his associates and the media.

As the political landscape continues to shift, all eyes are now on the Democratic National Convention and the selection of their new nominee.
