In 2024 we’ll not only watch Taylor Swift start the second leg of her Eras Tour, but there’s another big event happening that will be on everyone’s mind
Irrespective of personal musical preferences, it’s undeniable that Taylor Swift has achieved a level of cultural prominence that transcends boundaries; her widespread appeal has evolved into a cultural sensation. It’s intriguing to observe cultural phenomena, but exercising prudence is advisable before wholeheartedly embracing the prevailing trends.
Taylor Swift’s monumental Eras Tour, poised to embark on its second leg next year, spans five continents; it is poised to potentially become the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing even the esteemed Sir Elton John.
The demand for tickets for this tour is exceptionally high, often commanding steep prices; some tickets have even reached an exorbitant $2,000 this year. Consequently, my children are witnessing their peers strategically planning trips, both domestically and internationally, in pursuit of securing the most affordable Eras tickets available.
Traveling across the country alongside the Swifties isn’t an occurrence I’d anticipate when considering possibilities; it’s not an item I’d place on my Bingo card with high odds of happening. But, let’s keep it between us – please don’t let my daughter in on the fact that the odds might not be in her favor.
She’s already chosen a city and selected seats for the journey.
While I can certainly appreciate a noteworthy cultural phenomenon, I find myself less enthusiastic about her cultural activism, especially when it’s aimed at Gen Z – which includes my kids. If I’m being honest, I preferred it when she focused on her music and singing.
However, it appears she might be returning to her roots. With stadiums consistently filled with a minimum of 70,000 fans, a majority of them belonging to Gen Z, one can’t help but wonder if the second leg of her Eras Tour might also serve as a series of campaign rallies for Democrats in 2024.
In reality, there’s not much room for speculation.
Just last week, she successfully registered 35,000 people to vote on National Voter Registration Day.
There’s no denying her extensive reach, and anyone who overlooks that fact simply isn’t paying attention. Nevertheless, in 2018, she took it upon herself to become the self-proclaimed moral authority on all matters political, and she hasn’t slowed down since.
During the midterm elections that year, she took to Instagram to criticize now-Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., stating, “She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry…”
Her post was aimed at encouraging young people to register to vote, and just like that, it resulted in 65,000 new voters registering within a span of 24 hours.
Impressive, isn’t it?
However, it’s crucial to remember that registered voters only become voters if they actually go out and vote, assuming that the electoral process remains fair, of course. In the end, Senator Blackburn secured a resounding victory with a commanding 55-43 percent margin over her opponent.
This outcome likely wasn’t what Taylor Swift had envisioned.
In 2019, she publicly declared herself as “pro-choice,” seemingly yielding to pressure from left-wing radicals who were still grappling with Trump Derangement Syndrome. This shift occurred prior to the 2020 election after she had chosen to remain apolitical during the 2016 election. Since then, she’s had a lot to make amends for.
It’s important to clarify that in the eyes of the woke left, “pro-choice” no longer carries its traditional connotation of advocating for safe, legal, and rare abortions. These extremists are pushing for the normalization of abortion up until the moment of birth, although they often refrain from articulating this more extreme position openly. It would be intriguing to hear Taylor’s stance on this matter.
During her Eras Tour this year, Taylor Swift aligned herself with the woke agenda, particularly when it came to the controversial topic of sexualizing children. At the outset of Pride Month, she criticized state laws designed to safeguard children from sexually explicit drag performances and to prevent procedures altering kids’ genitals, deeming them “harmful pieces of legislation.”
Perhaps she should take a moment to recalibrate her moral compass before urging others to follow it.
Perhaps this could be a sneak peek of what awaits us in Eras 2.0 – Election Edition: an unbearable campaign commercial guided by Taylor Swift’s moral compass. They might want to consider adding a warning label to those tickets.
Hopefully, Taylor will excel at selling football jerseys, unlike her attempts to promote her political opinions.
Travis Kelce’s jersey sales experienced an incredible surge of nearly 400 percent after Taylor hung out with Mama Kelce at last Sunday’s Chiefs game, a spectacle that captivated 24 million viewers off the field.
I’m left wondering how long it will be before the “Real Housewives” franchise seizes the opportunity with the Chiefs. With Brittany Mahomes’ antics, such as showering fans in the cheap seats with champagne, and the star power of Taylor Swift, it’s surprising that contracts haven’t been signed by now.
Who wouldn’t want to witness a dramatic table flip in one of the suites, with “Bad Blood” playing in the background? They should act quickly before the breakup song hits the airwaves.
Travis recently mentioned that he’s going to exercise more restraint “moving forward” for Taylor’s sake. Little does he know that he is about to become the star of her next album.
Here’s a thought: when you’re in your 30s and publicly changing partners as often as you change shoes, with each relationship culminating in a song performed in front of 70,000 people, it might be time to put the pen down. Seriously, where is this girl’s mother? Can someone organize an intervention?
Bueller, Bueller, anyone???
While airing your personal struggles may make for a compelling album, it’s likely to leave you feeling empty and unfulfilled at 33 when the stage lights dim.
Undoubtedly, Taylor Swift’s legacy as an entertainer and singer is firmly established in the annals of history. However, her success as a political advocate thus far leaves much to be desired.
Up to this point, she’s been more hot air than a force of change. But as cultural norms evolve, so too can public opinion.
As C.S. Lewis wisely noted, “When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.”
So, before you align yourself with any cultural “norm,” it’s worth pausing to consider your choices and, if necessary, remember to “Shake it Off.”
