‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ is a re-recording of Taylor Swift’s 2010 album
Taylor Swift’s latest release, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” has generated mixed reactions among her fans due to a significant alteration. The song “Better Than Revenge” now features a modified lyric, as Swift chose to remove a line that had been criticized for slut-shaming. The original lyric stated: “She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress.”
However, in the updated “Taylor’s Version,” the lyric has been changed to: “He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.”
While some fans were not surprised by the revision, there are mixed feelings among them, with some expressing their desire for the alteration to have been avoided.
On Twitter, one user shared their opinion, stating, “If Paramore can perform ‘Misery Business’ in 2023, then Taylor Swift can keep the lyrics to ‘Better Than Revenge’ the same.”
Another user commented, “We just need to pressure her into releasing ‘Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version) (Slut Shaming Version),’ just like she did with Lana and ‘Snow on the Beach,'” referring to Swift’s decision to re-release a track on “Midnights” with additional vocals from Lana Del Rey.
Zuckerberg says Instagram’s new Twitter-like app, Threads, has 30 million users; Elon Musk responded
A user added humorously, “If you just scream over her, ‘Better Than Revenge’ has the same lyrics.”
In a humorous tone, some fans made references to other songs by Taylor Swift. One user jokingly tweeted, “May ‘Better Than Revenge (Slut Shaming Version)’ rest in peace and join ‘Picture to Burn (Homophobic Version)’ in that big studio in the sky.”
On July 7, Taylor Swift released “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”
After the re-recorded album was made available, Swift took to Twitter and expressed, “It’s finally here. It belongs to you, to me, to all of us. It’s an album I wrote entirely on my own, chronicling the whims, fantasies, heartaches, dramas, and tragedies I experienced as a young woman between the ages of 18 and 20. I vividly remember meticulously creating and refining tracklists, consumed with finding the perfect way to narrate the story.”
Swift’s latest album, “Speak Now,” encompasses six songs from her vault.
“In making my selections, I had to make tough decisions, inevitably leaving behind songs that I am still incredibly proud of,” she elaborated. “Consequently, you will find six From The Vault tracks! I recorded this album when I was 32, while still navigating my personal growth, and revisiting the memories associated with it evoked a profound sense of nostalgia and gratitude. Gratitude for life, for you, and for the opportunity to reclaim my own work. Thank you countless times for being part of the memories that help us overcome our challenges.”
These tracks from Swift’s renowned vault feature collaborations with other artists such as Fall Out Boy and Hayley Williams from Paramore.
Of the albums she recorded with Big Machine but did not possess ownership of, Swift has released three thus far, leaving three more to be released: “Taylor Swift” (2006), “1989” (2014), and “Reputation” (2017).
