Sen Roger Marshall endorses Trump for president, calls for political primary charade

Sen Roger Marshall: ‘It’s time for the GOP to unite behind President Trump’

Republican Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas announced Monday that he is endorsing former President Trump in the 2024 presidential race. Marshall, a longtime ally of Trump dating back to the former president’s tenure, called for an end to what he called a “political primary debate.”

He said his endorsement was aimed at supporting Trump’s priorities, including the needs of farmers, restoring border security, and addressing inflation rates fueled by the Biden administration.

“From the day Joe Biden stepped into the Oval Office, this White House has declared war on American agriculture and American energy independence for their Green New Deal agenda and electric vehicle mandates,” Senator Marshall said in a statement to US Newzs Digital.

“Joe Biden has declared war on American sovereignty by opening our borders, giving control to cartels, allowing nearly 10 million illegal aliens into our country, and allowing deadly fentanyl to pour into our communities,” he continued.

Marshall attributed the challenges to Biden’s “absent leadership” and accused him of “undermining the nation’s Christian values and our constitutional rights.”

“Our farmers and ranchers feed the world, and Kansans deserve a president who understands that and a leader who values the energy Americans produce. That’s why I support President Donald Trump. While others may try to emulate him, only President Trump will get our country back on track on day one,” he said.

“Along with an onslaught of stifling regulations, Joe Biden has declared war on our economy by unleashing federal spending unprecedented in modern history, leading to the highest inflation and interest rates we’ve seen in decades,” he commented.

“It’s time for the GOP to unite behind President Trump. Let’s end the political primary debate and focus on getting Joe Biden out of office,” he said.

Marshall has become a vocal critic of the 2021 Democrat-led impeachment inquiry after the January 6 Capitol riots. He voted to acquit Trump in February, insisting that “both sides are guilty of vehement rhetoric” regarding Jan. 6.

“But House managers and Democrats are equally guilty of their hypocrisy, and President Trump’s defense team paints that picture vividly,” he noted in February 2021.

The senator also aligned himself with Trump’s initiatives to improve electoral integrity after the contested 2020 general election.

Marshall has joined a contingent of about a dozen Republicans in the Senate who have already endorsed Trump. Simultaneously, Trump enjoys the support of nearly 80 Republicans in the House. On Sunday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also expressed his backing for Trump.

In the GOP nomination race, Trump is leading with the support of a record 62% of Republican primary voters, according to a new US Newzs survey published last week. This translates to a significant 50-point gap between Trump and other contenders, with Ron DeSantis at 14%, Nikki Haley at 11%, Vivek Ramaswamy at 7%, Chris Christie at 3%, and Asa Hutchinson at 1%.
