Rep. Alex Mooney recently introduced a bill proposing the designation of one month each year as “Fidelity Month.” The aim is to encourage Americans to join together in recommitting themselves “to the values of faith, family, and patriotism.”

In a press release, the West Virginia Republican emphasized the significance of faith, family, and patriotism as essential bonds for the country’s survival. He stated, “Observing a month where Americans of all faiths and beliefs can come together to reaffirm and rededicate ourselves to our core values is therefore appropriate.”

Fox News Digital conducted an interview with Rep. Mooney, delving into his motivations for drafting the bill and addressing his concerns for the nation.

According to Mooney, the bill took inspiration from Dr. Robert P. George, a conservative Christian philosopher and professor at Princeton University. Dr. George initially proposed the concept of dedicating the month of June as “Fidelity Month.”

The professor’s proposal for the holiday stemmed from his observation of a Wall Street Journal-NORC poll conducted in late March. The poll revealed a decline in traditional values and moral foundations among Americans over the past 25 years.

Rep. Mooney shared that he and other members of Congress have also taken note of these concerns and observed the trends of diminishing Christian faith, patriotism, and community spirit, and the diminishing recognition of the importance of hard work and the value of family.

Mooney expressed his perspective on the matter, particularly in light of recent developments since President Biden took office. He noted that during his nine years in Congress, he has witnessed an increased push for what he refers to as the “woke agenda,” which he finds absurd, citing examples such as men participating in women’s college sports, potentially depriving women of fair competition. Mooney believes the woke agenda has spiraled out of control and argues that what is needed is not this “woke nonsense,” but a revival of faith, family, and traditional values. It is this sentiment that led to the introduction of the bill.

He authored an opinion piece in The Journal of Martinsburg, discussing the outcomes of the declining trend in American values as evidenced by the WSJ’s poll, which was initially conducted in 1998.

This year’s poll revealed significant declines in the perception of the importance of various values among Americans. The importance placed on patriotism has dropped from 70% to 38%. Similarly, the significance attached to religion has decreased from 62% to 39%. The view of having children as “very important” has declined from 59% to 30%, while involvement in the community has fallen to 27%. On the other hand, the importance of money has seen an increase, rising from 31% to 43%.

Rep. Greg Steube, a cosponsor of the bill, conveyed in a statement to Fox News Digital that he believes the United States has deviated from its intended path.

According to the Florida Republican, as a society, we have eliminated the presence of God from schools, promoted the breakdown of the nuclear family, disregarded our national anthem, and neglected the Judeo-Christian values upon which America was founded.

Steube emphasized that the establishment of “Fidelity Month” is crucial in safeguarding our country’s future. By reinstating the fundamental American values of faith, family, country, and community, this initiative aims to ensure the preservation of these values for generations to come.

Rep. Josh Brecheen, also supporting the bill, invoked a quote from President John Adams to justify his endorsement.

In referencing Adams’ words, the Oklahoma Republican stated, “As President John Adams stated, ‘Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people, it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'” He believes that the success of the United States as the world’s longest-running republic is attributed to the cultivation of biblical and family values, which have nurtured self-governance and limited government.

Brecheen argues that as personal virtue declines, the federal government expands to fill the void. He expressed pride in cosponsoring Congressman Alex Mooney’s bill, which proposes the establishment of Fidelity Month, as a means to celebrate and uphold not only the ideals of limited government but also the aspiration to be a “shining city upon a hill.”

Despite reaching out for comment, Fox News Digital did not receive a response from Rep. Mary Miller’s office before publication.

Rep. Mooney emphasized the failures of countries that have adopted socialist or communist systems while removing God from the equation. He believes that America faces a clear choice, where embracing patriotism and faith can lead to success.

While acknowledging the challenges, Mooney maintains hope that Americans can still embrace the core values and moral foundation upon which the nation was established. He asserts that hard work, faith in God, and a love for the community are the driving forces behind America’s status as the greatest country the world has ever witnessed. In contrast, he dismisses what he calls “woke nonsense,” such as dressing up boys as girls and promoting the idea of different genders, which he considers a falsehood. He also opposes drag shows for grade schools.

Rep. Mooney highlighted the positive impact of values such as faith on the United States throughout its history. He drew attention to the statues of lawmakers placed in the U.S. Capitol, specifically noting the significance of one particular statue positioned in the middle, facing directly toward the speaker of the House. The statue he referred to is that of Moses, the biblical figure who delivered the Ten Commandments.

According to Mooney, it is the principles encapsulated within the Ten Commandments and other faith-based precepts that have contributed to the greatness of the country. He believes that these values are the key to happiness and success for any individual reading his article or any American. In contrast, he dismisses the noise generated by the current “woke agenda,” suggesting that it diverges from the values that have historically played a vital role in the nation’s success.
