Report on Kamala Harris’ vetting of potential running mates: four standouts

Vice President Kamala Harris Begins Vetting Potential Running Mates for 2024 Campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris has commenced the vetting process for her potential running mates for the 2024 presidential election, sources familiar with the campaign confirmed.

Following President Biden’s unexpected announcement to step down on Sunday afternoon, Harris, now the presumptive Democratic Party nominee, has been rapidly organizing her campaign ticket.

According to anonymous sources speaking to the Associated Press, Harris’s team has requested information on approximately a dozen individuals. Among the most-discussed prospects for the vice-presidential nomination are Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina.

Harris’s choice of running mate will be pivotal as she launches her last-minute presidential campaign, endorsed by Biden after his sudden withdrawal from the race.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment on these reports.

Meanwhile, the campaign of former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for the 2024 election, has downplayed the significance of Harris’s eventual vice-presidential pick.

“There is a short list of governors and senators. They are all interchangeable,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told reporters on Wednesday. “It doesn’t matter.”

Despite this dismissal, many top Democrats have rallied behind Harris, including endorsements from the Clintons, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

A recent national poll, conducted entirely after Biden announced suspending his campaign and endorsing Harris, shows a tight race between Harris and Trump.

According to an NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll, Trump holds 46% support among registered voters, while Harris stands at 45%. Trump’s one-point lead falls within the survey’s margin of error, with 9% of respondents undecided.

As Harris and Trump prepare for a closely contested election, Harris’s selection of a running mate will be crucial in defining her campaign and consolidating support within the Democratic Party.
