President Biden’s age and Harris’ low approval ratings are concerns for Democrats ahead of 2024
During her interview with Bill Whitaker on “60 Minutes,” Vice President Kamala Harris reassured that “Joe Biden is very much alive” and intends to run for re-election in the upcoming presidential election.
The interview covered a range of issues, including the ongoing Israel-Gaza War, the border crisis, and the upcoming presidential election.
Whitaker inquired about the perspective of some Democratic donors who had conveyed concerns about what might occur if President Biden could not run for re-election. He mentioned that there seemed to be hesitancy among these donors to fall in line naturally and support Vice President Harris as a potential candidate in such a scenario. Harris responded to this inquiry during the interview.
In her interview with Bill Whitaker, Vice President Kamala Harris responded strongly to his inquiry, saying, “First of all, I’m not going to engage in that speculation because Joe Biden is very much alive and running for re-election.”

Whitaker acknowledged the concern as legitimate, to which Harris continued, “I’m hearing a lot of different things from a lot of people. But I’ll tell you, I’m focused on the job. I really am. Our democracy is on the line, Bill. And I, frankly, am running for re-election. There’s no time for parlor games when you have a president who’s doing it.”
After a brief pause, Harris reiterated her focus by saying, “That’s it.”
The question of President Biden’s potential re-election challenge came as Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips announced his intention to challenge Biden in the Democratic primaries. Phillips aims to transform the party into a new generation of leaders. Notably, the interview was not about Phillips’ campaign.
Biden’s age and stamina are indeed a recurring concern among Democratic voters, despite his status. If he takes office for a second term in 2024, he will be 82 years old.
Vice President Harris has faced challenges in terms of approval ratings, Whitaker noted, with only 41% of adults surveyed by CBS approving of her performance as vice president. However, during the interview, Harris did not seem preoccupied with the polling statistics.
“When the American people can take a close look at their options come election time, I think the choice will be clear, Bill. We will win. I will tell you that we will win. . and I’m not saying it will be easy, but we will win,” Harris concluded.
