Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez starred in a Dunkin’ commercial last year, in which Affleck worked the drive-thru for a day
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez won over fans with their Super Bowl commercial.
The duo starred in Dunkin’ Donuts’ latest ad alongside other notable figures. The commercial starts with Affleck in a car with singer Jack Harlow, who acts as his voice of reason, advising him against interrupting Lopez in the recording studio.
Despite Harlow’s advice, Affleck decides, “Last year, she came to my work. Now, I got to show her what I can do.”
In the next scene, Affleck is joined by his Bostonian crew, Matt Damon and Tom Brady, all sporting matching orange and pink Dunkin’ sweatsuits labeled DunKings. Affleck introduces his boyband, the Boston Massacre, with the catchphrase “The DunKings!”
Affleck then raps, “Don’t dunk away at my heart. Why you Dunkin’ me, girl?” while an enthusiastic Brady, playing the piano, chimes in with, “DunKings!”
“On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan asked, “Where can I get those jumpsuits?” Another said, “The boy band we never knew we needed!”
Damon seemed less than thrilled to be involved, telling Affleck, “Being your friend is really tough, man,” and reluctantly delivering the final line of the rap, “How do you like them…donuts,” before apologizing to Lopez.
Lopez appeared visibly embarrassed by her husband’s performance as she and fellow Bronx native Fat Joe watched in horror.
“We discussed this,” she told Affleck when he finished, to which he replied, “Let’s bounce. You’re just dazzled by those pinstripes,” referring to the New York Yankees.
In the end, Affleck and Damon walked off together, with the “Bourne Legacy” actor telling him, “Remember when I said I’d do anything for you? This is anything.” Affleck appeared unfazed by both Damon and Lopez’s reactions, concluding the commercial by saying, “Relax, they’re naming a drink after us.”
Dunkin’ Donuts launched the DunKing menu on Monday, featuring Affleck’s favorite drink – an iced coffee with vanilla, sweet cold foam, and cinnamon. Additionally, they introduced the DunKings Munchkins Skewers, consisting of three Munchkins of different flavors on a skewer.
“Best Commercial of the Super Bowl HANDS DOWN,” one YouTube user commented under a video of the ad. “You put Ben and Matt on screen together, You always win.”
“Hey Bronx!! That expression from JLo and Fat Joe when they looked at Ben was priceless,” another user remarked. “This is hands down the best commercial ever.”
“This Dunkin’ ad with an incredible cast including Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Jack Harlow, Jennifer Lopez, and Fat Joe is an absolute genius,” read another comment. “With its catchy tunes and hilarious antics, ‘The DunKings’ commercial serves up a perfect mix of entertainment and Dunkin’ delight.”
Their latest commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts serves as a follow-up to their previous collaboration last year, where Affleck took on the role of a Dunkin’ employee for a day. In that commercial, Lopez portrayed a customer in the drive-thru.
These ads weren’t the first time the couple teamed up. They first crossed paths in 2002 while working on the film “Gigli.” Although they found love on set, the movie didn’t fare as well as their recent commercial.
Reflecting on the 2003 film, director Martin Best described it as “a disastrous mess that rightfully faced harsh criticism.”
“In the aftermath of key scenes being axed, the film became akin to a joke without its punchline, leaving a sense of disarray that couldn’t be masked by desperate attempts to salvage what was left,” Best revealed to Variety in July 2023. “Extensive reshoots and editing only further muddled the characters, scenes, storyline, and tone, futilely attempting to transform the mounting chaos into a coherent movie.”
Affleck shared with Entertainment Weekly in January 2022 that grappling with the negative reception of “Gigli” prompted him to discover “the true passion of [his] career”: directing.
Following their collaboration on “Gigli,” Affleck co-starred alongside Lopez in the music video for her track “Jenny from the Block.”
In the music video, the couple enjoys various activities such as dining out at a restaurant, lounging on a yacht, refueling their car, and relaxing on a balcony. The footage is shot in a style that mimics paparazzi footage.
When the two rekindled their romance nearly two decades after their initial split, they embarked on an Italian vacation aboard a yacht, seemingly echoing one of the more iconic scenes from the music video.
“We were just on the boat! There was no recreation!” Lopez clarified to People in February 2022. “I was lying down… It was a trip I like to take for my birthday, but no, we were not intentionally recreating it. I didn’t know there were paparazzi out in the middle of the ocean either!”
The two celebrities tied the knot on July 16, 2022, in a private ceremony in Las Vegas. They followed it up with a second ceremony a month later, surrounded by family and friends, at Affleck’s estate in Georgia.
