Harrison Ford starred as Indiana Jones in all five installments of the hit adventure franchise
Harrison Ford shared a humorous anecdote, revealing that he heard the iconic Indiana Jones theme music playing while undergoing a recent colonoscopy.
The 81-year-old actor has portrayed the adventurous archaeologist in the blockbuster film series since the debut of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981. In a recent interview with Variety, Ford discussed the music composed by John Williams, including the legendary theme song known as “The Raiders March.”
“As I often joke with John, his music seems to follow me everywhere I go — quite literally,” Ford remarked. “During my last colonoscopy, they were playing it on the speakers in the operating room.”
Williams composed the scores for all five “Indiana Jones” films, including “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984), “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989), “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (2008), and the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (2023).
“The Raiders March” has been featured on the soundtracks of all five “Indiana Jones” films. A five-time Academy Award winner, John Williams, who is 92 years old, made history this year as the oldest Oscar nominee ever, earning his 54th nomination for scoring “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

Williams has enjoyed a longstanding collaboration with “Indiana Jones” creator George Lucas and the franchise’s director, Steven Spielberg, having composed scores for numerous iconic films such as “Jaws,” “E.T. The Extraterrestrial,” “Schindler’s List,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Jurassic Park,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and nine of the “Star Wars” movies.
During his interview with Variety, Ford praised Williams as “a gracious, gracious guy.” The star of “1923” also disclosed that he relishes the opportunity to attend Williams’ recording sessions as a conductor.
“It’s truly delightful to witness him collaborating with the orchestra — simply being able to sit in the room and witness the incredible attention to detail that every beat of the music receives,” Ford expressed. “The mutual respect between him and the musicians is a joy to observe.”
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was the sole “Indiana Jones” film not helmed by the franchise’s original visionaries, Lucas and Spielberg, although both held executive producer roles. Nevertheless, Ford reprised his role for what is set to be his final adventure as one of his most iconic characters.
Williams initially agreed only to compose character themes for the final installment, but he ultimately took on the task of scoring the entire film. In a 2023 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Williams shared his reasoning for committing to the project.
“Frankly, I thought to myself: Well, I don’t want somebody else to do that. It was like when I was working on ‘Star Wars,’ you know. I thought: If I can do it, I should try to do it,” Williams explained.
