Actor George Clooney thanked President Biden for showing ‘true leadership’ by stepping aside from the 2024 presidential election

Hollywood Democrats have thrown their full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris as her presidential campaign gains momentum, bolstered by a wave of celebrity endorsements and substantial donations.

Actor George Clooney, a prominent Democratic fundraiser who recently urged President Biden to step aside in a New York Times op-ed, officially backed Harris on Tuesday following Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 race.

“President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest,” Clooney stated to CNN’s Jake Tapper.

“Lost” producer Damon Lindelof also lifted his self-imposed “Dembargo” on Hollywood donations to Democrats after Biden passed the torch. Expressing profound relief and excitement for the upcoming election, Lindelof shared his enthusiasm on Instagram, declaring, “Suffice to say, the DEMBARGO is lifted. And here. We. GOOOOOOOOOOO!”

With Biden out of the race, numerous Hollywood heavyweights, including rapper Cardi B, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, and TV producer Shonda Rhimes, quickly voiced their support for Harris. Andy Spahn, a Democratic fundraiser and president of consulting firm Gonring, Lin, Spahn, told Reuters, “We are all in for Kamala Harris! Started to work on her behalf the moment she announced.”

Harris made her first official visit to her campaign headquarters on Monday evening, entering to Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” According to CNN, Harris’ team received approval from Beyoncé’s representatives to use the song.

In June, a fundraiser hosted by Clooney and actress Julia Roberts raised over $30 million, marking the largest Democratic fundraiser in history according to the Biden campaign. However, following Biden’s shaky performance at the June 27 presidential debate against former President Trump, Clooney and other Hollywood figures publicly called for Biden to end his campaign.

Disney heiress Abigail Disney, who previously expressed doubts about Biden’s chances, praised Harris as an excellent candidate and resumed her donations to Democrats. “I’m with her,” actor Bradley Whitford posted on X, aligning himself with Harris.

Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, singer Barbra Streisand, and “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes are among those who have voiced their support for Harris. Rhimes shared a photo of herself with Harris on Instagram, affirming her continued support.

Additional endorsements came from “The Woman King” actress Viola Davis, “Abbott Elementary” actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles. Cardi B celebrated Harris’s candidacy on X, reminding followers of her earlier support: “AHAHAHAHA LETS GOOOOO I TOLD YALLL KAMALA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE 2024 candidate.”

As the entertainment industry rallies behind Kamala Harris, her campaign receives a significant boost in both visibility and financial support, setting the stage for an energized and high-profile run for the presidency.
