Jamie Komoroski charged in Charleston DUI that killed Samantha Miller on her wedding night
According to a recent report, the South Carolina woman accused of crashing her car into the back of a bride and groom’s golf cart on their wedding night, resulting in one death and three people being hospitalized, confessed to being an “alcoholic addict” in phone recordings from jail.
Jamie Komoroski, 26, was arrested by deputies in Charleston, South Carolina, in April 2023. However, she was released on $150,000 bond earlier this month after prosecutors missed the March 1 deadline set by a judge for her trial.
Samantha Miller, the 34-year-old bride, tragically lost her life in the crash. Her groom, Aric Hutchinson, 36, along with her brother Benjamin Garrett and a juvenile relative, all sustained serious injuries.
In court filings, Komoroski’s defense attorneys previously asserted that she had battled with alcoholism, depression, and anxiety for years. However, according to the New York Post, Komoroski allegedly confessed in her own words during a December 11 phone call with her sister, Kelsi.

“I consider myself an alcoholic addict because anything that makes me feel different or distracts me from what I’m supposed to be feeling, I used to try to do,” she admitted. “I just didn’t see any meaning in life. I felt extremely lonely and didn’t understand life. I couldn’t just sit down and be with my thoughts.”
In additional calls, Komoroski’s father informed her that the conversations were being recorded. She also mentioned reading the Bible while incarcerated and participating in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings within the jail.
“[In AA], we discuss how our higher power cannot prevent something bad from happening because we have free will and choice, and along with that comes consequences. However, our higher power can bring good out of bad situations,” she stated, as reported by the Post.
Following her release on bail, her family assisted her in relocating to a new apartment in Charleston, where she is obligated to stay according to the terms of her release.
Photos depict them carrying move-in supplies, including a throw blanket and a fruit stand, during one of several trips they made to the apartment last week.
According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the surviving victims, Komoroski allegedly had a blood-alcohol content of .261 – more than triple the legal limit – after bar-hopping between at least four establishments before the crash.
After spending hours drinking in at least four bars, the New Jersey native purportedly drove “in her nearly unconscious state,” took a wrong turn in the opposite direction of her home, and rear-ended a golf cart “while in the haze of drunken stupor,” traveling at over 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.
She has been placed under house arrest with an ankle monitor.
If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
