The couple, aged 38 and 41 respectively, were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage so that Prince Andrew could possibly move in. Frogmore Cottage is located on the grounds of Windsor Castle, which is west of London. Initially, it was meant to be the main residence for Harry and Meghan before they stepped back from their royal duties and relocated to Southern California.

Confirmation of the cottage being vacated was provided in the palace’s annual Sovereign Grant report released on Thursday.

During their time as active members of the royal family, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle resided in Frogmore Cottage. The cottage underwent renovations costing $3.2 million, which the couple fully repaid after securing their lucrative Netflix deal in 2020.

Following their departure from the United Kingdom, Harry, and Markle announced that Frogmore Cottage would continue to serve as their base during visits to the UK.

It is currently uncertain where the couple would stay if they were to visit the UK in the future. Prince Harry had previously traveled to London in May, without Markle, to attend his father King Charles’ coronation. He also made a trip from their California home to London’s High Court in June to appear in his legal battle against the publisher of the Daily Mirror.

After stepping back from their senior roles as working members of the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle provided explanations for their decision. In 2021, they participated in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they accused the palace of expressing concerns about their son’s skin color.

Markle also shared her experiences of facing intense media scrutiny, which she felt the royal family did not adequately address. She even spoke about contemplating suicide during that time.

In 2022, the couple further discussed their experiences as working royals in a documentary series released on Netflix. Prince Harry followed this up with his memoir titled “Spare,” which delved into the challenges he faced in his relationships with his father, King Charles; his brother, Prince William; his stepmother, Queen Camilla; and others.
