Perry died on October 28 after an apparent drowning in a hot tub
Actor Matthew Perry from “Friends” has a strong support system that includes the show’s famous creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane. They recently shared memories of their last conversations with Perry before her tragic death.
According to Kauffman, their last interaction with Perry was marked by his joy and enthusiasm. He is free from any emotional burden and is in high spirits. This makes his untimely death even more difficult to understand.
Kauffman noted that Perry is mentally stable and has a healthy appearance. In a positive twist, he successfully quit smoking and maintained his sobriety.
Kauffman continued to say she was in “complete shock” and deeply saddened by the news of Perry’s death.
“It’s hard to fathom… one minute he’s here and happy and the next, poof… doing good in the world, really good in the world.”

Perry died Oct. 28 after drowning in a hot tub, law enforcement sources confirmed to US Newzs Digital. He was 54. No drugs were found at the scene and no foul play was suspected.
Before he died, Perry said, “People will be surprised by his death, but not surprised.”
“Friends” co-creator Crane responded to Perry’s statement and said, “Maybe that’s true… given the journey he’s been on.”
“We all know that. There was always a part… bracing for something like this.”
“It’s still hard to believe, he was such a tangible person, it’s hard to believe he’s not here,” Crane told TODAY.
Perry spent more than $9 million on his decades of drug abuse and sobriety. At one point, he was taking 55 Vicodin a day, he wrote in his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.”
Kauffman recalls Perry being open about his journey to sobriety after seeking treatment. She also admitted her concerns about the late actor during the “Friends” reunion in 2021.
The “Friends” cast, which includes Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, released a joint statement remembering their late friend and co-star.
“We are all devastated by the loss of Matthew. We are more than just cast mates. We are a family,” the cast said in a statement. “There is much to say, but right now we will take some time to grieve and process this enormous loss.
Crane talked about their iconic moments on “Friends” and how the world fell in love with each character, especially Perry.
“From day one, the six of them…you can tell they’re going to be a family. We all are, and in 10 years you go through a lot. There’s a journey on-screen and off-screen,” Crane said.
“When we talk about Matthew, we all know our priority is supporting him.”
Leading up to Perry’s death, Kauffman said she “felt better” and was “thrilled” than she had been in a while. They said Perry’s desire to help other addicts gave him a purpose in life.
“I’ve lost a friend in so many ways, and the outpouring from fans who’ve lost their friend, too, has been amazing. I hope he feels it, wherever he is,” Kauffman concluded.
