In the largest metropolitan area of Arizona, Phoenix, and the nearby communities experienced temperatures nearing 115 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Monday’s forecast for the area is 116 degrees Fahrenheit, which is just two degrees shy of the record high for that date set back in 1907. Afterward, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly over the next three days.

In Nevada, the Las Vegas metro area is currently under the first excessive heat warning of the summer, which will last until Monday evening. Daytime cooling centers have been set up throughout the region to provide relief from the heat.
On Friday, the temperature at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas reached 102 degrees Fahrenheit, marking the end of a 294-day period where temperatures remained below 100 degrees.
On Sunday, the high temperature in central Las Vegas was around 112 degrees, and the National Weather Service predicts that it will reach 113 degrees on Monday.
A heat wave is currently affecting interior California, with temperatures forecast to exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit in the agricultural region of the state.

During Saturday’s severe weather in the town of Berlin in northern Alabama, a tragic incident occurred as lightning struck a tree under which 31 cows had sought shelter. Regrettably, the lightning strike resulted in the death of the cows.
