Tech billionaire Elon Musk visited the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Thursday; his intention was to livestream a tour of the area, aiming to provide people with a genuine understanding of the ongoing migrant crisis.

Musk, the owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, has shown substantial interest in the border situation. He has been actively posting about it on his social media platform, X, which was previously known as Twitter.

On Tuesday, he disclosed that he had conversed with U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, regarding the crisis; Gonzales affirmed that it was indeed a “serious issue.”

Musk, sporting a black cowboy hat, conducted a live broadcast on his platform on Thursday. In his address, he expressed his intention to engage with officials and conduct an on-the-ground assessment to obtain an unvarnished perspective of the situation.

He stated, “This is real-time, unfiltered,” emphasizing that viewers would witness exactly what he was witnessing.

Musk, who himself is an immigrant, shared his strong support for immigration but clarified that there should be an enhanced immigration system. This system, he argued, should enable hardworking and honest individuals to legally immigrate to the U.S. while preventing those who intend to break the law from entering the country.

One concern he expressed was the potential for an influx of illegal immigrants into the country to strain social services, a situation reminiscent of New York City’s struggles when migrants were transported there from Texas.

Accompanying Musk was Gonzalez, who expressed his gratitude for the tech mogul’s visit to the border in order to obtain an unfiltered view of the situation.

The live feed briefly went offline before resuming with Gonzalez providing a more detailed analysis of the border situation.

Commenters on Musk’s live feed were highly engaged, with one user noting, “It’s great to see Elon taking on the role of the mainstream media and politicians who are actually paid to handle this but are refusing to do so.”

Numerous users expressed their appreciation for Musk’s live streaming from the border town.

Some users extolled the virtues of live streams, with others humorously pointing out that they’re great “when they work.”

Furthermore, comments flowed in that either praised or teased Musk for his choice of attire, specifically the cowboy hat and shades.

In the end, the live feed resumed for another 13 minutes before coming to a close.
