‘We’re gonna prosecute the case against Donald Trump,’ Doug Emhoff said
Second gentleman Doug Emhoff responded to former President Trump’s recent criticisms of his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris after she launched her presidential campaign. Trump, known for coining nicknames for his political rivals, referred to Harris as “Laughin’ Kamala” and “Lyin’ Kamala” on his social media platform Truth Social.

Emhoff’s Retort
“That’s all he’s got?” Emhoff remarked when asked by reporters about Trump’s comments. He praised Harris for her compelling campaign launch and her clear vision for the future. “You heard the Vice President yesterday making the case against Donald Trump,” Emhoff said. “Very clearly laid out the case, directly and compellingly. But she also laid out a vision for the future.
A vision where there’s freedom. Where we’re not having to talk about these issues of today in this post-Dobbs Hellscape that Donald Trump created.”
Harris’ Campaign Launch
Harris announced her presidential bid on Sunday night after President Biden declared he would suspend his re-election campaign. By Monday night, Harris had secured enough delegates to become the Democratic Party’s nominee, although the formal selection will take place at the next month’s convention in Chicago.
Prosecution of Trump
Emhoff emphasized Harris’s commitment to holding Trump accountable. “We’re gonna prosecute the case against Donald Trump and his lies, his gaslighting, during COVID, the dereliction of duty, inciting an insurrection, and all those other things,” Emhoff stated. He stressed the importance of moving beyond the restrictive environment post-Dobbs decision, advocating for restored freedoms and autonomy.
Historic Fundraising
Since launching her campaign, Harris has seen unprecedented financial support. She raised $81 million within the first 24 hours, the highest amount ever raised by a presidential candidate in that timeframe. From Sunday afternoon, when Biden dropped out, to Monday night, Harris’s campaign accumulated $100 million. The campaign reported that over 888,000 grassroots donors contributed during the first 24 hours, with 60% of them making their first contribution of the 2024 election cycle. Additionally, 43,000 donors committed to recurring donations.
Comparison with Trump’s Fundraising
Harris’s fundraising efforts surpassed the nearly $53 million raised by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee in May, following Trump’s conviction on 34 felony counts in New York City.
Building Enthusiasm
Emhoff highlighted the enthusiasm and broad support for Harris’s campaign. “You see the enthusiasm, you see the excitement,” Emhoff said. “You saw the money raised, you saw the party coalesce. You saw the broad base of support that she had in just one or two days because she’s talking about an America that we all have a place in.” He expressed confidence in Harris’s ability to unite both the party and the country, predicting her victory in the upcoming election.
Kamala Harris’s campaign launch has ignited significant support and momentum, positioning her as a strong contender in the 2024 presidential race.
