Despite criminal charges, Hunter Biden is still a member of D.C. Bar

Hunter Biden faces two counts of willful tax evasion

Hunter Biden continues to be a “good standing” member of the Washington, D.C. Bar despite facing multiple criminal charges and violating the organization’s rules of professional conduct. As first reported by the Daily Caller, Biden informed the judge during his first appearance in a Wilmington, Delaware federal court—in which his expected plea deal ultimately collapsed—that he held membership with both the D.C. and Connecticut Bars.

Remarkably, according to the D.C. Bar website, Biden remains a member in “good standing”; however, it is worth noting that the rules of professional conduct clearly state that it is considered misconduct for a lawyer to “commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects.”

The rules also specify that “many kinds of illegal conduct reflect adversely on fitness to practice law, such as offenses involving fraud and the offense of willful failure to file an income tax return.” In Hunter Biden’s case, he faces two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax and has pleaded “not guilty” to these charges.

Furthermore, another rule outlines that attorneys may be subject to the “possibility of probationary conditions” if they are dealing with “addiction to drugs or intoxicants.” Hunter Biden’s failed plea deal acknowledges his “well-documented and long-standing struggle with substance abuse.”

Another important bar rule strictly prohibits lawyers from “stating or implying an ability to influence a government agency or official improperly.”

According to IRS whistleblower testimony presented during a May House Ways and Means Committee hearing, Hunter Biden allegedly threatened a Chinese business associate in 2017. He reportedly sent a text message to the associate, mentioning that he was sitting next to his father, Joe Biden.

In response to inquiries about the possibility of President Biden issuing a pardon for his son, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed the idea. However, both President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have expressed “support” for Hunter following his not-guilty pleas.

During Wednesday’s press briefing, the White House repeatedly avoided addressing questions concerning the breakdown of the plea agreement. Prior to the briefing, attempts were made to discourage reporters from asking about Hunter’s ongoing legal issues.

Currently, the DC Bar has not provided an immediate response to Fox News Digital regarding this matter.
