Chase Young praises 49ers’ ‘culture’ after trade: ‘I know I’m in a winning building’

The 49ers acquired Young from the Commanders

The San Francisco 49ers strengthened their defense by acquiring Chase Young from the Washington Commanders just before the NFL trade deadline.

This Sunday, Chase Young will make his debut with the 49ers as the team aims to return to the winning column in their match against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Young had spent approximately three years with the Commanders but faced setbacks with an ACL tear and ruptured patellar tendon in his knee, interrupting his career just as it was taking off.

However, with the Commanders declining his fifth-year option, the team could trade him, and eventually, they did. Young said Monday he was “not mad” about the move.

“Just the culture, the vibe is so different. I definitely know I’m in a building with winners,” Young said of the 49ers franchise.

“The spirit in the locker room. The spirit of the coaches. It’s just different. It’s the same thing at Ohio State where you think you’re going to win. It’s like a ‘we’re going to win’ vibe. … I’m just happy to be blessed with the opportunity to be with this franchise.”

Young will be reunited with Nick Bosa on the defensive line. The two played together at Ohio State.

“Five minutes after they did (the trade), he called me and said, ‘Bro!’ like,” Young said. “It’s a good moment. Even in college, we never thought we’d play against each other again. It’s a blessing.”

In seven games, Young had five sacks and 15 tackles.

The 49ers will enter Week 10 with a 5-3 record.
