Arsonist takes credit for putting out a fire: Biden admin trashed for bragging about lowering gas prices

The White House posted, ‘Gas prices are down $1.70 from their peak – just in time for holiday travel’

The Biden administration claimed responsibility for the recent drop in gas prices this week, a move that drew criticism on social media, with some likening it to an “arsonist taking credit for putting out a fire.”

On Monday, the official White House account on X (formerly Twitter) released a post aimed at fostering economic optimism in anticipation of the holiday season.

The White House shared, “Gas prices have decreased by $1.70 from their highest point – just in time for holiday travel. President Biden remains committed to reducing expenses for families, making it a top economic priority.”

Last year, the average national gas price hovered around $5 a gallon, with some states like California facing prices around $6. According to AAA, the current national gas average is $3.295. In November 2020, the end of President Trump’s term, AAA reported a national average of $2.113 per gallon.

Critics have slammed the White House, alleging that President Biden, while claiming credit for lowering gas prices, actually played a role in their initial rise. Even with the recent decline, some have suggested that current prices are significantly higher than those under the previous administration.

GOP Rapid Response Director Jake Schneider commented, “A fireman takes credit for putting out a fire. Gas is still nowhere near what it was when Biden took office ($2.39/gallon).”

Justin Haskins of the Heartland Institute commented, “However, costs have skyrocketed since @JoeBiden became president. Almost nothing is affordable, including gas, which is very expensive!”

Fox News contributor Joe Concha wrote, “Based on the reactions to this…I’m starting to think that this whole tactic of treating people like they’re complete and utter idiots isn’t resonating very well.”

@Politibunny, the editor of Twitchy.com, wrote, “You don’t get credit for jacking up prices like crazy and then bringing them down a teensy bit. Not to mention you blamed Putin for the increase and said you had no control over it.”
