Alabama Lightning Strike Kills Dozens of Cows

Severe thunderstorms are possible for much of North Alabama later in the week

According to local news reports, more than 30 cows lost their lives in a lightning strike that occurred in northern Alabama on Saturday.

During a severe storm in northern Alabama, the beef cattle sought shelter under a tree at a farm in Cullman County. Unfortunately, lightning struck the tree, resulting in the unfortunate death of over 30 cows, as reported by WVTM 13.

A Facebook post from the local news source, Cullman Daily, displayed distressing images of the lifeless bodies of cows lying beneath the tree where they sought shelter.

“A Cullman County farmer lost 31 cows today,” the post reads. “He was struck by lightning and died near them. Please pray for this farmer.”

WVTM 13 identifies the owner of the farm as Damon Gardner. His brother, Tim Gardner, told the outlet that he plans to give the animals a proper burial.

Rain and severe thunderstorms are forecast for much of North Alabama for the rest of the week.
