Poll shows Trump’s popularity is growing among Hispanics

50% of Hispanic Republican voters said they would vote for Trump in the GOP primary

Hispanic: Trump gag order

Former President Donald Trump is gaining momentum among Hispanic voters, according to a recent Univision poll that claims to be the largest Hispanic bipartisan primary public poll of the 2024 election cycle so far.

Among Hispanic Republicans, Trump maintains a strong lead, with polls suggesting 50% would vote for him in the GOP primary. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was second with 12% and pharmaceutical tycoon Vivek Ramaswamy trailed behind with 9%.

Despite facing four federal indictments, Trump continues to dominate among Hispanic voters, with his support at 36%, a four-point increase from when he left office in January 2021, according to a previous Univision News poll.

Overall, the poll, which collected responses from 1,400 registered voters and 759 Republican respondents, is one of the largest samples of Hispanic voters so far in the election cycle.

“This first-of-its-kind national poll provides valuable insights into the wants and needs of the Hispanic community, providing an in-depth look at the sentiments of Hispanic Republican primary voters. There are diverse and nuanced views across the community,” said Garcia-Rios, Director of Polling and Data at Univision Notices on Monday.

However, if a presidential election were held today pitting incumbent President Biden against Trump, the poll indicates that 58% of Hispanics would vote for Biden and 31% would support Trump.

While Trump remains popular among Hispanic Republicans, the broader Hispanic voter base highlighted by pollsters has not shifted to the right.

A majority of Hispanic voters in the poll—more than 50%, regardless of their party affiliation—expressed deep concerns about the economy but believed Democrats were better positioned to address these issues.

Concerns about everyday costs, including health care costs (27%) and housing prices (25%), are high among Hispanic voters.

However, large numbers of voters believe that neither party has offered a satisfactory solution to the pressing economic challenges they face.

Beyond economic concerns, a growing number of Hispanic voters now rank mass shootings and gun control policies as the second most important issues facing the nation.

Border security continues to be a critical issue for Hispanic voters, with Republicans holding a slight edge. According to the poll, 41% of voters trust Republicans to handle the immigration crisis, while 40% trust Democrats. It is noteworthy that both Hispanic Democrats and Republicans agree more on the need to increase border security.

Meanwhile, in a recent poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC, Trump currently leads President Biden by 10 points among voters. If the 2024 presidential election were held today, the poll suggests Trump would win with 52% of the vote, compared to 42% for Biden. Respondents expressed negative views on Biden’s economy, the US-Mexico border, and his age.

According to the poll, Biden’s approval rating is at 37%, while 56% of respondents strongly disapprove of his presidency.
