Over 50% of Americans approve of ending affirmative action
Most Americans agree with key Supreme Court rulings on affirmative action, free speech, and student loan handouts, according to a new poll that comes amid controversy over recent landmark decisions.
SCOTUS on Thursday ruled that using race as a factor in determining college admissions violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
An ABC News/Ipsos survey found that 52% of Americans approve of the decision to abolish race-based school admissions, while 32% disapprove.
In a 6-3 decision, the court also struck down President Biden’s student loan handout as unconstitutional.

The poll results indicate that 45% of the public approves of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding student loans, while 40% disapprove of the ruling.

The poll revealed that 71% of Republicans approved of preventing President Biden from canceling student debt, while only 17% of Democrats agreed with the Supreme Court’s decision.
Additionally, the court issued a ruling in favor of a Christian graphic designer who contended that she should not be compelled to create a wedding website for same-sex couples due to the conflict it poses with her religious beliefs.
The support for the free speech ruling is almost evenly divided among Americans, with 43% agreeing that businesses should not be compelled to offer services that contradict their faith. On the other hand, a close 42% expressed their disapproval of the decision.
According to the poll, it was found that 68% of Republicans support the decision to permit businesses to refuse services based on faith, whereas only a mere 15% of Democrats approve of the ruling.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted from June 30 to July 1, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
