Former President Trump criticized President Biden’s unsuccessful student loan forgiveness proposal on Friday, labeling him as “crooked” while celebrating a favorable Supreme Court decision in the case of Biden v. Arkansas.

Trump spoke before an enthusiastic audience at the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors National Summit in Philadelphia. During his speech, he strongly condemned Biden’s plan to forgive student loans, which aimed to eliminate debts of over $10,000 per borrower with federal loans.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court declared Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan unconstitutional.

The proposal intended to waive debts for individuals earning less than $125,000 annually, while Pell Grant recipients would have been eligible for up to $20,000 in forgiveness.

During his speech, Trump expressed his view that the proposed student loan forgiveness plan would have been unfair to the hardworking individuals who diligently paid off their debts. He described it as “very unfair” and criticized President Biden, referring to him as a “crooked” leader who was attempting to gain votes through such measures.

The Supreme Court’s majority opinion dealt a significant blow to the Biden administration, discrediting the notion that the HEROES Act would authorize loan forgiveness.

In Chief Justice John Roberts’ majority opinion, it was stated that the Secretary’s plan would have eliminated approximately $430 billion in federal student loan balances, completely erasing the debts of 20 million borrowers. Additionally, it would have reduced the median amount owed by the remaining 23 million borrowers from $29,400 to $13,600. The 6-3 majority ruling emphasized the lack of legal authority for such extensive loan forgiveness.

“Six states filed suit arguing that the Heroes Act did not authorize a debt cancellation plan. We agree,” the judge added.

Trump also mentioned 303 Creative LLC. v. Eleni’s decision, which gave a Christian web designer the right to refuse service to same-sex couples.

“As you know they also gave religious freedom… a tremendous success. Today religious freedom is a tremendous success,” the former president said.
