As Trump takes a huge lead in new polls, ‘Bidenomics’ falls flat with voters

Trump leads Biden overall by 5 percentage points

President Biden is facing challenges in outperforming former President Trump, particularly on issues like the economy and immigration, despite recent positive indicators such as job growth and a slowdown in inflation.

According to the findings of a national NBC News poll released on Sunday, President Biden lags behind former President Trump, the leading candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, by 23 points when voters were asked about their preference for handling the economy.

Despite President Biden’s recent assertion that his administration’s economic policies are beginning to show results, with statements in Michigan on Thursday that “inflation is coming down” and claiming the creation of “800,000 manufacturing jobs,” the polling numbers indicate challenges in public perception on economic matters.

Nevertheless, in the survey, 55% of registered voters indicated that they believed Trump would be the superior candidate to manage the economy, while 33% favored Biden.

Trump holds significant advantages over Biden in various areas, including securing the border (+35 points), possessing the necessary mental and physical health to be president (+23), and addressing crime and violence (+21). Additionally, the former president enjoys double-digit leads over Biden in terms of being competitive and effective (+16) and improving America’s standing in the world (+11).

The figure concerning being competitive and effective is particularly worrisome for Biden, as highlighted by NBC News, as it reflects a significant shift from 2020 when Biden held a nine-point lead over Trump on the same question.

Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the poll alongside Republican pollster Bill McInturff, expressed concern about the erosion of Biden’s standing against Trump compared to four years ago. Horwitt remarked on the results, stating, “On every measure compared to 2020, Biden has declined. Most damning, the belief that Biden is more likely to be up to the job — the chief tenet of the Biden candidacy — has evaporated.”

This reality may be a contributing factor to Biden’s ongoing decline in approval, which reached a new low for his presidency in the poll, standing at just 37%.

In an overall assessment, the poll reveals Trump leading Biden by five percentage points, with 47% to 42%, among registered voters in a hypothetical 2024 general election rematch.

The survey was conducted from January 26 to 30, encompassing 1,000 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
